Musical Merit Foundation of Greater San Diego
About
Annual competition for instrumentalists and vocalists run by the Musical Merit Foundation of Greater San Diego. Applicants audition in preliminary, semi-final and final rounds and finalists perform at an awards concert. Winners are presented scholarships and performance opportunities at the Awards Concert and Reception.
Since 1946 the Musical Merit Foundation has held a yearly competition to recognize and support extraordinary musical education, talent and skill.
Who can apply
Meet the age rules for instrumentalists as stated
“Instrumentalists: All applicants must have reached age 16 or be a graduating high school senior, and not have reached age 26 on the date of the Final Audition, Saturday, May 29.”
Meet the age rules for vocalists as stated
“Vocalists: A ll applicants must have reached age 18 or be a graduating high school senior, and not have reached age 32 on the date of the Final Audition, Saturday, May 29 .”
Be a resident of San Diego County for at least one year
“An applicant who is participating in the Preliminary Auditions must be a resident of San Diego County, Imperial County, or Baja California for a minimum of one year at the time of the Preliminary Auditions - OR - have been a full-time registered student (12 semester units) in a college or university in the above geographic area since the preceding September.”
Be a resident of Imperial County for at least one year
“An applicant who is participating in the Preliminary Auditions must be a resident of San Diego County, Imperial County, or Baja California for a minimum of one year at the time of the Preliminary Auditions - OR - have been a full-time registered student (12 semester units) in a college or university in the above geographic area since the preceding September.”
Be a resident of Baja California for at least one year
“An applicant who is participating in the Preliminary Auditions must be a resident of San Diego County, Imperial County, or Baja California for a minimum of one year at the time of the Preliminary Auditions - OR - have been a full-time registered student (12 semester units) in a college or university in the above geographic area since the preceding September.”

Residency requirements do not apply to previous semi-finalists · preferred
“Residency requirements do not apply to participants who have previously competed in the Semi-Final Auditions.”
Instrumentalists must be at least 16 and under 26 on the date of the Final Audition.
